You must then read your classmates’ responses. After you have read their responses, you must respond to TWO of your classmates by the last day of the academic week at 11:59 pm ET. These are called your PEER RESPONSES. Each Peer Response is worth 10 points and should be 100 words in length, which is equal to about 0.4 page of double-spaced writing in Arial, Calibri, or Times New Roman 12 point font in a Word document.

Discussion 2: Your company is deploying 200 sensors on a farm to collect field data that will be stored in a database in the cloud. The company also wants to develop an application that will be able to analyze the data. Think of at least two Azure resources that can be used to achieve that objective. Give reasons why these services are adequate to meet the requirements.

Response :

To achieve the objective of collecting field data from 200 sensors in a farm, storing it in a cloud database, and developing an application to analyze the data, two Azure resources that can be used are IoT Hub and Azure Cosmos DB. Here’s why these services are adequate for the requirements:

1- Azure IoT Hub: Azure IoT Hub is a fully managed service that enables reliable and secure bidirectional communication between IoT devices and the cloud. It provides features for device management, data ingestion, and monitoring. In this scenario, it can be used to securely connect, monitor, and manage the 200 sensors on the farm.

Reasons why Azure IoT Hub is adequate:

Device management: Azure IoT Hub allows you to register, monitor, and manage the farm sensors at scale. it provides features for over-the-air updates, configuration management, and security policies.

Data Ingestion: IoT Hub can handle the ingestion of data from the farm sensors at scale, allowing for real-time processing and storage of the sensor data in the cloud.

Security: IoT Hub provides robust security features, including device-to-cloud and cloud-to-device communication encryption, device authentication, and access control.                                                                                                                                              2- Azure Cosmos DB: Azure Cosmos DB is a globally distributed, multi-model database service designed for high availability, low latency, and scalability. It is suitable for storing and querying large volumes of semi-structured data such as the sensor data collected from the farm.

Reasons why Azure Cosmos DB is adequate:

· Scalability: Azure Cosmos DB can effortlessly scale to accommodate the large volume of sensor data being collected from the farm. It can handle the ingestion and storage of semi-structured data from diverse sources.

· High Availability: Azure Cosmos DB provides a guaranteed high availability with multiple replicas across Azure regions, ensuring that the farm data is always accessible and durable.

· Query and Analysis: Cosmos DB supports multiple data models, including document, key-value, graph, and column family, making it suitable for storing and querying the diverse types of data collected from the farm sensors.                                 By using Azure IoT Hub for managing the sensors and ingestion of the data, and Azure Cosmos DB for storing and querying the sensor data, the company can build a robust and scalable solution for collection, storing, and analyzing field from the farm.

Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates and Azure Blueprints are both tools provided by Microsoft Azure to facilitate the deployment and management of resources in Azure environments. However, they serve different purposes and are used at different stages of the resource lifecycle.

To give an example: In the realm of video game development, ARM templates and Azure Blueprints play distinct yet complementary roles. ARM templates function as meticulous instruction manuals, akin to blueprints, guiding the creation of a specific game world. They delve into the specifics, detailing characters, landscapes, and configurations with fine-grained control. Whether crafting a small mobile game or a sprawling open-world adventure, ARM templates provide the versatility to define and configure every element of the game environment.

On the other hand “Azure Blueprints allow the IT professional to orchestrate the deployment of resource templates and other Azure artifacts, including role assignments, policy assignments, resource groups, and resource manager templates” (MITCHELL, 2019)
Azure Blueprints serve as comprehensive master plans for game development on a broader scale. Instead of focusing on individual game instances, Azure Blueprints offer a standardized, repeatable structure that extends across multiple games. This broader approach ensures consistency and compliance in configurations, making it ideal for managing large-scale game development projects. While ARM templates are the detailed guides for crafting a single game, Azure Blueprints provide the overarching strategy for maintaining and scaling game development efforts, facilitating efficiency and consistency across diverse projects.

ARM templates are focused on the deployment of individual resources and configurations, Azure Blueprints provide a higher-level abstraction for defining and enforcing organizational standards and governance across multiple deployments. Blueprints often leverage ARM templates as part of their deployment process. The choice between ARM templates and Azure Blueprints depends on the specific needs and scale of your Azure environment. (devgenius, 2022)

To answer the question… I would probably use a template. I believe that blueprints would be used more on a managerial level or that of a project managers or department heads in order to maintain consistence  across a wider range of aspects  , not simply that of a task or 1 program.
