RESPONSE1

Explain one method you would use to terminate a specific group or specific type of group.

To terminate a specific group or type of group, one method that could be used is through targeted communication and intervention. According to Society for the Advancement of Psychotherapy (2010), stated that  this method occurs when treatment goals have been achieved or when treatment is time limited and the agreed upon number of treatment sessions have been provided. As such, a social group work facilitator should influence group communication and intervention when reaching the termination stage.

In your example, explain how the group type you chose can affect the termination process and how.

For instance, let’s consider a workplace environment where a certain team is not meeting performance expectations.

If the group type is a project team, their termination would impact the overall project timeline and deliverables. In this case, the termination process would need to involve careful planning to ensure a smooth transition of their responsibilities to other team members or to recruit new members to pick up where the terminated individuals left off. This could affect the project’s budget and timeline as well as team morale.Alternatively, if the group type is a department or division within a company, the termination process would have a broader impact on the organization. It would require extensive communication and planning to reassign responsibilities, ensure continuity of operations, and manage any potential backlash or morale issues within the larger group.

In either scenario, the termination process would require clear communication, careful planning, and consideration of the impact on the remaining team members and the organization as a whole.

RESPONSE2

Explain one method you would use to terminate a specific group or specific type of group.

When working with a group of veterans, it would help to not stop the meeting without giving them time for termination. Give the veterans time to talk about the termination and make sure I also tell them how I feel about it. “Social workers need to acknowledge that endings are near before they abruptly occur. They must encourage clients to share feelings about the termination and, in turn, share their own. Additionally, practitioners must identify whatever progress has been made (Kirst-Ashman, 2017, p. 52). Lay everything out about how the meeting progressed and the next step, such as referrals.

In your example, explain how the group type you chose can affect the termination process and how.

Working with the veteran group, I realize the need for continued help. I can give them the needed resources by talking to them and discovering their needs. “My responsibility is to do some research to find a clinician or ask the patient if they’d like assistance finding someone else because they trust me and I know their needs” (Abramson, 2022). Veterans need something positive to hold on to. They are giving them something positive to think about, such as their progress. “One vital aspect of consolidating patient gains is reminding them of their success, which can instill a sense of pride and confidence for the future” (Abramson, 2022).
